Alright, I won’t waste time with trifles. I said my mission of LBS. You remember? LBS, do you have someone else? I mean your celebrity friends.

The guys I met at the end of last year.

Okay. I am going to call their names. 이병헌 임창정. actually they are from a variety of areas. 류승범, 환희 and..and…who else? Ah, 최희섭, he is a baseball player. No one is an ordinary man. Among them, HH came to celebrate this event. I don’t think we (*Park and HH) know each other well. We didn’t have time to do that. HH, what do you think of LBS.

HH: I think he was great on TV. Personally, he is like my older brother.

Park: That’s right. I agree with you. He is kind, warm, and nice. He is gentle to others.

HH: when he sent me a text message or the sort of thing, I feel he is like my older brother. He cares for other people.

Park: that’s why you came the birthday (*unclear whose birthday Park referred to here) because of LBS.
HH: Yeah.

Park: You showed to the party even though no female guests were invited. (Chuckle) I’d like ask you for something. Well..I am afraid if I am allowed to say this…LBS, when I accepted to be a mc for LBS fan meeting, I asked LBS for something in turn. I am now a main mc of 지피지기 and 이영자 is my partner. For us, confirming a beloved celebrity will be our guest is like a war. That’s why I call it mission. So…If it’s okay with you, I mean, if I am allowed to ask, I’d like to ask him if he can show on our show. (Fans, why not! Please, please LBS be the guest for Park’s show!!! We want to see you again on TV!!)

Park: We are planning to invite LBS and his celebrity friends and present a great time for you guys to know more about LBS and his friends. Frankly speaking, it was planned long time ago, but I didn’t reveal the project. Even my manger does not hear about that. Why? I was afraid to be rejected!! (*if Park’s comment is translated literally, it would be ‘I was afraid to be fired!’ But it seems inappropriate in this context)

We are not in a hurry. It’s totally okay if he can be with us only a couple of months later. We just hope to have time with him someday. No time pressure. We just want to show more people LBS as he is, how much he cares for his significant others. And..you know what. Our show is popular. We are better than other shows such as Happy together or Hey Hey Hey. So…LBS and HH…hmmm...how do you guys think?

You may think I am mean. Probably I would say I am mean. However, I’ve never done like this before. But I should ask them because these guys…they are the very people we must invite for the show…

And then Park asked HH the same question. Without hesitation, HH accepted Park’s suggestion.

All right. Then we will plan further. I will try to do our best to make you and all of the audience feel comfortable and happy … I love you LBS and HH. Thank you so much.

HH, is there any comment before you leave? Sing along time? How does that go?

LBS interrupting suddenly and said,

For the next time please. I will ask HH for singing a song next time.
HH: Yeah. Hope you are doing well. I see you on TV often although we hardly meet each other often. Hope to hear from you on the phone or a text message or whatever.

LBS interrupts again,

HH, Are you busy at the early of July?
Why do you ask that?
I want to have dinner with you.
Why not?

LBS: You know what? We have dinner for almost 10 hours. (chuckle)

HH: I appreciate you two. (and then disapper)

(And then LBS sits different place).

A new performance began.

It was a silent, sign (finger) language drama.

It moved LBS and others deeply. The actor looked visually handicapped. Park said ‘her smile is really beautiful’ repeatedly. LBS said her performance was very touching. He appreciated for her performance with great lyric, great playing. LBS said, Thank you for coming to perform this. When she was asked to say something for LBS, she talked ‘I wish we love each other forever. I wish we love each other just the way we are.” LBS replied, You will be in my mind…always.” LBS gave her a really big and warm hug.

And then last team appeared.

Three young girls, putting matching costumes, danced. When LBS remembered one of the middle school students, fans were jealous of her.

LBS said,

This girl…she came the spot for filming SGBDH to see me almost every time. Despite of tough restraint for entering the spots assigned in 건국 hospital, which was resulted from the complaints of patients and their families, she was never daunted and holding a door handle. (smile)

LBS introduced her to Park by saying “she is a fan who likes me very much.”
Park: do your work girl. Don’t focus on anything else like that.
LBS: we may not have to worry her. You know what. I think she works hard. I know her name is in the top 10% (he didn’t say the percentage exactly) of all students.
She said she got an academic scholarship/award.
Park pretends to be jealous of her by saying “you must be very smart. how can you do all of them at one time! You are crazy, aren’t you!”
Finally, the talented show is over.
LBS went to change his clothes.

LBS: I am counting the number of the presents remained.

(In the end, 5 out of 7 could get one)

Looking at one of them choose the shoes and leave the socks, LBS says, "bring each sock to the two not in the line".

Also LBS says, moving a chair up and down, "I would like to give this chair to them instead".

Hugging the person who performed Simba, LBS said, actually I had trouble to tame Simba. Did you see a small whit I have in the video?

next, someone played SGBDH OST on violin. Her performance was once interrupted by Park as he suddenly stood up in the middle of playing. Later Park apologized her about that. He said he believed the music was over. LBS seemed to enjoy her performance very much.

Great. what did you think of it? I didn't expect you have such a great fan!
Hmmm...I was very glad...because...hmm...here's a story why I was so happy to hear the music...actually most of SGBDH actors and staffs didn't watch the drama because we were rushed for filming. I am serious. Everything was very tough at that time. SGBDH episodes were shown on TV every Wed and Thu, and we would filim Thursday episode even on Wed. That's the way we worked out. Do you know when I realized SGBDH was over? We had a farewell party on Friday. I remember the date is Marh 18th. And two days later, I bought SGBDH OST album and listened the songs. I thought the music was quite good. very good. SGBDH OST reminded me of all of the moments I got through. The moment I didn't expect the apperance on TV that hard. The moment I prayed to finish my parts as soon as possible. I came near to shedding tears. How I can say this...the music made me think, "I did my best for the drama...yes, I think I did." And suddenly I missed many people I met and worked with for the drama. I desperately missed them. So...SGBDH OST is memorable to me very much. Thank you very much for playing the music.

Park politely apologized her again for interrupting her performance.

Well, I don't think LBS has so many celebrity friends. (fans shouting against Park's comment) it's because LBS is trying to do his best for someone once he believes him/her to be a friend. And today one of them came here. Could you please introduce our guest and your friend for us, LBS?

HH: yeah, thank you for inviting me. actually I haven't met LBS so often outdoor. We are more likely to meet at the gym with a naked body.

And the next person picked the album, and the last got another one. When the last person on stage gave a comment like a tough-guy, Park said,

why….why LBS fans look like a tough-guy? (At that moment, fans sitting in the opposite side are buzzing). What? You want us to come to your side? (fans: yes~~) okay. Then we will be this side little bit longer then there during the rest of the time. Let’s seek a compromise. You know what? I believe fans resemble their star, they look like the celebrity they like.

eh..um..but I feel a sort of forces coming out from you. See, you guys (then he copies som people) Don’t you know I am not going to hurt you or hit you. (smile) Does LBS have the same characteristic as this? I mean something extreme? (a half-smile) I turn coward a little bit. (smile)

Next team acts a play which is similar to a musical drama. Like an omnibus drama, the team performs a number of episodes such as how LBS fans reacted when he left a message at his fan café, how much they want to be close to him (so, even they wish they could be Simba, LBS’s dog or even they decide to drink 둥굴레 tea all the time--* once LBS used the nick 둥글레. Many Korean drink this tea. You can imagine jasmine tea in China), and also how they could come to LBS fan meeting despite of many restrictions and difficulties they have. As someone appeared on stage as Simba, she got LBS big laugh for the first time. And then LBS is talking something to Park under his breath.

So, how’d you like the show LBS?
Wow…amazing. Great ideas, great format.

Park: you mean, you played the musical without team rehearsal?
We rehearsed overnight yesterday.
(Both Park and LBS were very surprised to hear their answer)
And more LBS?
I think it was great they changed the lyrics to be appropriate for the episodes.

Also, I was very impressed to see someone’s acting as samba, my dog. As you saw, Simba in the play told his owner “hey, one hand please~” (in the middle of the play, someone acting LBS told another one acting Simba “hands!” and Simba followed his order and put two hands (*i.e. front paws) over LBS hands at first. But later Simba said “hey LBS, one hand is just enough, okay?”)

Park: Don’t you actually have a golden retriever?
Yes. Simba is just like him in the play. He used to be quite tame but now he is little wild. So when I asked him “hands!” then Simba followed it well before, but now when I say “hands!” and then “okay now only this hand!” Simba looks at me and lays on his side (smile). He may be reluctant to change the center of mass. (smile)

Park: you know what. then my dog would bite me (chuckle)

I've just visited anne's blog and got to know that LBS left messages at DC gallery. Immediately I went there to read them. Well, I am not sure 100% if LBS actually wrote them. I don't know why but I just sensed it. As there are so many writings as usual, I cannot look over them. As I am not a member of LBS fan club so don't know his writing style well. and so on...But..anyway...I feel a little bit strange while reading them. It appears a bit unnatural and artificial on one side..but looks like LBS on the other side. that's why I imagined what and how I would write for my fans if I were LBS... I wonder if there's a notice to confirm that it was LBS but failed to find any. DC gallery is 100% open forum so there have been some cases that someone pretends as like a celebrity. That might be probably why I am not for sure.

I will be sad if someone faked us. that's why I am trying to think it must be him.

(Talent show competition starts, LBS & Park are watching. LBS is attentively and carefully watching fans’ performance)

All right, all right. Please come over here girls. I remember someone mentioned ‘mysterious’ senior high school student. Who said that? (she is moving her hands) hey, tell me something not shaking hands (but she continues to shaking hands). LBS, see, I think she is weird~ (all smile) LBS, come closer to see them. She brought a mask…

LBS gives the performers a hug, fans scream desperately). Each team was asked to say something shortly and most of their comments are “Love you, LBS” As they did want to hug LBS as long as possible, Park needs to get them away from LBS. Doing that, Park said, see, that’s why I came today ~~(chuckles)

Wow, what a digital camera! You know what? You guys are great. You are alike when you pose for the picture (then coping their similar pose and gesture)

Anyway, do you know what collection LBS brought today? LBS, what did you bring for your fans?
Hmmm…nothing special, no luxury stuff…but..
Didn’t you get this hat (it could be a cap. I didn’t see any photo of it, so don’t know exactly how it looks like) on before? (fans madly screaming)
I have many hats and caps. Probably 100? And this one..I might use this one or two times (fans, please try to put it on~). I brought this because this is what I used the least.

(LBS lifting two pink dumbbells with one hand) I brought this to want to encourage you do exercise. These are dumbbells.

This is a jump-rope. And this one…is something similar to jump rope. You can hang it over a post and pull hard…like this. Got it? (smile) It’s easy to do, but sometimes it makes me feel irritated because it’s very elastic! (smile) and next…these the photos of me with my autograph. (and then lifting the framed photos). I chose the frames myself and got photos in until dawn. It’s because…hmmm…(LBS unwrapping each of them and showing the people all of them) it is nothing important..but…I found out that I left my fingerprints all over the glass cover…so I started over keeping clean my fingerprints. (smile) (fans no, no, no! we like those with your fingerprints more~~ please leave them~~) and then…I prepared two notebooks. I think you can keep a diary or journal on this..and…DVDs. Forbidden Quest and My wife is a gangster 3.

No. one per each person performed on stage. And then these shoes..I put on these shoes three days. Three times with socks. And this one is a mug cup (then taking it out of a box, which looks like woman’s body. It’s embossed around breast and waist) haha this cup looks funny.
Well, it looks sexual with embossed part. interesting.

Can they choose to pick one? (Immediately after the comment, the fans are running up to the stage) Wait, wait, please be patient. LBS will want you to yield for others. Let’s see…aren’t you hot with the costume? Okay, I should do this fast. I will go faster. So don’t be upset. You guys came here today to see LBS, not to be vexed at others. Right? Each one can get one. Please stand in a line. Do rock-paper-scissors. All right, loser first. (then they pick one in order)

The first person pick the hat, next My wife is a gangster3 DVD. At that moment, Park interrupted to say, wait just a second. Aren’t you too young to watch this movie? However, immediately after getting her age, oops, I am sorry I am wrong.

Anyway, I’ve been to fan meeting many times, but wow LBS fan meeting is really impressive. LBS has the fans in the ages. How could he do this?

Thank you for coming. thank you very much. I was acting in theatre and cinema major in the college. And, by nature, I like doing something on stage. This is just my style.

Really...Really...though it's a bytalk, though I never planned to talk this...I would sing a song on stage if I were Best Actor Award winner (cheers,claps, shouts from fans).

No, I didn't mean it. It's just..it's just like this. Moving such a joy and delight forward for the next time, I am just happy now being with you. I appreciate you all.

Meeting with you was planned two and three years ago...hmmm....it could be made up last year. However, I met a new management company and moved my office to it, and again, suddenly, a good opportunity was offered to me, and I appeared in SGBDH (acclamations). I was going to organize fan meeting after the drama, but many of you had the exams (fans: no no!! don't you know this? we are having the exams now, too !!) (LBS chuckling) then you had midterms at that moment. I am serious..really..really!! (LBS laughing, Fans cheering and clapping..) So then we are meeting today. Thank you all.

I don't tend to ask a favor of the people I know well. So I didn't tell them "you know what. hmmm...I am going to do such and such when and where for what" like that. (fans: Good job LBS!!) well, I know well how entertainers whould feel when I or my managers would ask them any comments for celebrating fan meeting..then they would say "okay, but shoot quickly please" then we thank them and their comments would be just like this. "congratulations!! I hope you guys have a great time today. go LBS, go LBS fan!!" That's it.

I know the feeling. So I was reluctant to ask the actors close to me to do that because I didn't want to bother them and didn't want to be rejected, either. But I called one person (*he was Park Su Hong) whom I call "hey my younger brother!". And the other guest..he is a great singer..he was quite willing to be our guest although I didn't call him. I will politely ask him to sing a song for us later. I appreciate their coming.

Now, here comes our first guest. He and I occasionally meet to have dinner or lunch together or coffee break or chat. He is a great guy. please welcome him with applause when I introduce him.

Let me talk about LBS-1

My third project consists of two parts. First, I will translate significant comments upon LBS as an actor. I hope you enjoy what the experts in korean movie (i.e. movie directors and producers, newspaper journalists, and movie columists) say about LBS. Second, I will translate my reviews of his past works including SGBDH. In order not to make it wordy, I am going to compare mine with others, assuming (or pretending) that I argue against someone's review.

Let me talk about LBS

"(......) Most of all, I'd like to assure him that I am now directing the movie. I should ignore how we were in the past when he was an actor who played a minor part and should bring his clothes to the spot by himself without a manager, and I was one of a director's men who should brook his complaint and yelling and should not refute against it.


I had heard that LBS was said to be an actor who would not give in his interpreation of a role or a scene. But the air between us was not tense. He was not headsrong, but just trying to prepare his part thoroughly. I was knocked out by LBS who appeared with his parts fully laid from head to toe, not to mention with his lines perfectly rehearsed. It was like a straight punch inavoidable in a boxing match.


Let's rewind here.

"Don't laugh much on this scene."
"How come? I think at least smiling is better than nothing here."
"I just think that's better."
"Tell me why."
"It's hard to explain."
"If you say I can't, then who else to make it clear for me?"

There was no room for me to escape from LBS who asked a resonable answer even when I asked a minor change of his action. Since then, I had to do my homework with regard to LBS's part twice as much as others. "Hey brother! You did have a hard time when you took only minor characters. Didn't you? Let's do this with the memory and emotion", I began to get my request off my chest. I decided to tell him what I want directly, not distantly. (.......)"

Me too. I also like reading different views on LBS in English to beomsu gallery at DC. You are right. Unfortunately it rarely happens unless you request something there. So I fully understand your feelings. Indeed, I was sorry to read one of your comments a few weeks ago (I never miss your messages whenever I go to the gallery^^).

I couldn't recall it exactly though, I remember that Jenny said she would be your guardian something like that. Please don't feel that you invade the space at all. No one, I bet, thinks so. Actually, this is meaningless because it's just like a circle. You have some feelings but, to me, those are the very reason why you don't have to keep such ideas. As you said, most of the folks at the forum are not fluent in writing using English. There are only a few who are, but they may prefer relaxing using their mother language. That's all.

For some cases, some people may be indifferent to your posting because they don't want to or they are not able to communicate in English. But it has nothing to do with what you feel and think. Rather, I assure you that they respect you, always feel sorry about not being able to help you as much as they wish because of language difference, and take pride in having you at their gallery. How can I know this? It's just because I do, too. ^^

Indeed, I thought "oh, certainly, anne has the great insights to sense what the news/gossip/interview says about LBS even though it is a Korean text!" Also, I simply presumed, "probably there are many LBS fans who can help anne read him." I don't know exactly why I have these kind of ideas, but it is true I had the ideas anyway. Most of all, I am not good at writing in English and not fast in the response to others, either. So, like many other people at the gallery, I wish I could but actually I didn't intend to do something before you do someting. Well justified? Not at all?^^

So then, please anne, stop kind consideration and free to bother them and ask them to let you know what you want to know. You deserve it. I bet they find no difference between you and them except languages. You are alreay called as 앤횽, 안네횽, or anne횽, not unidentified nickname, you know.

Actually, if I am not in a hurry for responding, and if you go on about your interests regarding his acting either to the gallery or to your blog, it will be helpful for me as well. It will be a good motivation for me to keep updating. I don't know if you and I are similar in character though, I am more interested in a review than a prompt report. I like to find and suggest the examples and cases relevant for news or info of LBS, comment, make each as a review or a record, and file them (hmm, am I confessing I am a nerd?^___^). So, don't get rid of the good, instructive chances away from me. It's much harder to write in English than just read English text or translate English to Korean, but I should practice this anyhow.

As to your comment that LBS must have been saying whatever that popped up in his mind, couldn't agree with you more!! I am just curious to know why^^ It appears that LBS had enough time to prepare a short speech, he was not a new comer to the festival, he might predict to win the award.....but his speech was quite different from that at Baek Sang awards. As you pointed out, it was not fluent and not well organized either so not moving or touching this time.

Indeed, he didn't tell anything but thank you it's my honor something like that. He was saying as if he reminds the audience what happened to their beloved Korean actors such as Han, Park, and An. No mention of 류승완 the director of City of Violence or the movie title. So I guessed there might be a cognitive gap between where my popularity comes from and what brought me here, and who am I etc. hehe...

Um..unexpectedly, 박중훈 Park, Jung Hun appeared in a dream last night. (*speaking like a monologue) Wow, I saw him (* Park is an actor, too) in my dream for the first time in my life! (*stop talking it and explain what he dreamed of) I was sleeping like a log beside a valley. I missed Best Supporting Role and I thought (*again speaking as if he is talking to himself) Hmm...it might be due to his appearance last night! LBS is expected to appear in a movie this summer. As there have been clouding forecasts for filmmaking in Korean movie industry, which is mostly due to financial circumstances, that's great news to me. No detail has been reported yet though, it is no wonder his next movie project will be another case to show that he is an admirable actor (*christina, I was glad to read your greeting!). I hope he will have a great time in filming.

I am also glad because the news helped me decide my third project. I think it's good time to talk about his acting with you. Indeed, my friend anne encouraged me to translate my thoughts on his acting and share them with her and other readers, but I couldn't do it at that time because I was not sure how to do it. Unfortunately, I am still indecisive, so you may need to be more patient with me until I find a good way to review this time. Sorry in advance^^

For reference, I moved some of my scribbles of LBS's acting to be posted to two DC galleries. For sure, those are closer to personal notes/memos rather than reviews. Like many other LBS's fans overseas, I discovered LBS in SGBDH. Although I love to see a movie, my favoriate movie list was not overlapped with his filmography much. Thus, it was my first project after being attracted by Dr. An (and LBS) that appreciated his acting, following his filmography one by one. It's why/how/where these memos were written out. If you want to look at them, click the review titles (all of these are written in Korean).

I will decide which format will be good in 1-2 days: translate each of them-add new comments-suggest examples/evidence to support my view vs. find a review of the same movie-make a pair between the review and my note-discuss and develop a short question list for my readers vs. ??? etc.

There was a blackout in the evening over here. As I believed that it would not be long, with no worry, I lit a bunch of candles and kept reading, which was unexpected joy.

When power came back one hour and a half later, and the entire village was lit up back, once again, I sensed that light always accompanies noise. I even felt like that light came after noises.

Anyway, I listened Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in a long time, feeling sorry a ittle bit that the stillness in the dark disappeared, which was the bright side of a day in the end^^.

PS: I found a visitor's message on guestbook. I think she gave me an insight as to my third project. Jennie, I hope you will come over here someday and read my replies. Glad to see your comment!

I am glad I'm done with the second project. The complete version of 50 Q&As is now linked to "For You" side menu. I hope you enjoy it.

When I opened this blog, I didn't have any concrete idea except the extended LBS profile and the translation of DAUM interview, and I finished them. Thus, I am thinking of "what's next?", but it's still uncertain which one would be good.

How about you? I guess only a small number of people visit to my blog, so you are special to me.^^ If there is any topic about LBS that you want me to translate, free to tell me. I will look for some in my own way.

Q46. Whose phone number did you save as the extension #1 in your cell phone?

A46. I am ignorant of what I am not interested in. In fact, I am poor at dealing with machinery (*or electronics). (laughs) I don't use the extension numbers.

Q47. What's the last scene of SGBHD you expect?

A47. I would imagine a scene closing with Bong and An's hug or kiss.

Q48. There was a little exposure of your body in the scene that you had a penicillin shot. And I think you have muscular beauty. How much do you spare time for exercising?

A48. I really like to take exercise. I have been doing exercise for last 10 years. I began it in order not to be lazy as an actor. But, as the days go, I am sure I just enjoy it now. There were something else I loved to do in the past, but now I like doing exercise the most. I think there is nothing but weight training that honestly shows how often and how much I do exercise.

Q49. What do you do when you have no shooting schedule?

A49. Then I take a stroll around my neighborhood. It's good for me to air myself. I love such a relaxing time.

Q50. What responses did you hear the most after SGBDH?

A50. "yelling Beomsu" Also, I often heard the compliments such as"you did a great job in creating a new, different character" and "I didn't know you can fit this kind of character so well". I am glad to hear them.

Q42. What do you do when you are not in a good mood?

A42. Then I go for a drive, opening car windows. Or I look for a spacious and quiet take-out coffee shop, and spend some time in reading a newspaper with a cup of morning coffee. It may help me feel better.

Q43. I think there are so many medical terms which are long and hard to be memorized in SGBDH. Did you have a troble to get used to them? I think you might well make a mistake in shooting because of those terms. What is your know-how to memorize your lines?

A43. It was so hard to memorize the medical terms. We all actors had difficulties to get used to them. As our tough shooting schedule, I was chronically sleepy and so was my tongue. Then it was harder for me to speak my lines.

Q45. In SGBDH, your walking looks cute and funny. Indeed, one of your nicknames, 아장범수 (*아장 is an adjective referring to toddler's walking -toddle), is created from your walking. how do you think about your walking?

A45. Everyone walks in a different fashion. Personally, Robert De Niro's walking looks characteristic.

Q38. Which scene do you think you were completely absorbed in as Dr. An?

A38. I carefully prepared Dr. An character because it's important to get used to the role. In the episode 2, there was a scene that Dr. An who places his top priority on patient's life was pressing hard on BDH, calling her to account for a patient's sudden death at the conference.

Q39. According to your profiles, 안중근 (An Jung Geun) is indeed the figure you respect (*An Jung Geun is a Korean independene activist (1879-1910)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Jung-geun) I want to know if you have a special feeling for acting as 안중근 in SGBDH because they are different people with the same name.

A39. His character itself is attractive.

Q40. Who is the actor you want to follow?

A40. I have one, 허장강, and he is such an actor whom I respect rather than want to immitate. I saw him on the TV screen when I was young. He showed me many different characters such as Charlie Chaplin, a trusty father, and a villain.

Q41. Do you have a word or a gesture you make like a habit? You seemed to finger your ears in some photos. Is that your interview habit?

A41. I tend to "hmm..." as I begin to say something. I think, among good photos of me, I was just more photographed when using the gesture.
